Teresa Watts – Athlete of the Month

Posted by on Jan 3, 2012 in Athlete of the Month | 24 comments

Teresa Watts exemplifies the athlete of the month at CFPP. She NEVER shies away from a workout. Whatever it calls for, she will do it. Her consistency, enthusiasm and constant progress makes her a standout among the athletes at CFPP. She does every WOD until the very end, refusing to cut corners, making every rep count. These are the virtues of a true CFPP AOM, and we’re thrilled to recognize Teresa. Here are a few words from the Athlete herself: How I was introduced to CrossFit: I was introduced to CrossFit by my son Mike Watts. He and...

August Athlete of the Month – Pat McCarty

Posted by on Aug 4, 2011 in Athlete of the Month | 9 comments

Pat McCarty was a hard sell in the early days of his CrossFit career. He just LOVED the globo gym workouts with mirrors, TVs, and plenty of rest between sets. He loved the shrugs with heavy weight, the decline press, anything to beef up the “mirror muscles”. However, he was nowhere close to fit. Enter CrossFit. Pat went from reluctant participant, to willing participant, to Level 1 trainer, to games competitor. His 16th place world-finish in the 2011 CrossFit games is a testament to the fact that anyone who wants it CAN achieve...

Thomas Gray – Athlete of the Month, July 2011

Posted by on Jul 16, 2011 in Athlete of the Month | 7 comments

Thomas Gray has stepped in front of a dozen or so adult athletes who may have been up for nomination as Athlete of the Month in July, and he is 13. What caused him to stand out in the eyes of his trainers at CrossFit Football is his relentless work ethic. Thomas has been in CFFB since the early spring, and goes after every workout with 100% determination. He even caught the eye of some of the trainers who train the General Skills classes, when he would slip in with the adults, beat the pants off everyone, and quietly go on his way. He is...

Chelsea McCarty – Ahtlete of the Month June 2011

Posted by on Jun 10, 2011 in Athlete of the Month | 11 comments

Chelsea McCarty has been with CrossFit Power Performance since nearly the beginning.  Her first workout was at Nisbett Park when we were still roving around the city like nomads.  Since that time, she has grown into a tremendous athlete, having set her sights on and mastered nearly everything she set her mind to. First, it was kipping pullups. Then, deadlifts.  She’s a highly skilled Olympic lifter and she performs every single rep in every workout with integrity. Chelsea truly embodies the CFPP Mission statement that “We Work...

May 2011 Athlete of the Month: Mike Bunner

Posted by on May 18, 2011 in Athlete of the Month | 6 comments

Mike came out of nowhere. One day, new guy shows up. Struggles with some of the movements but obviously has some athleticism in his background. Overhead Squats…Pullups…Double Unders, etc. But everyone notices that mike comes early and stays late. He seeks out help for tips on how to do this or that. He relentlessly practices his nemesis moves. He rarely misses a day. Next thing you know, he’s at the head of the pack on the runs…when the pack comes back after a 400m run and most folks take a breath and a sip of water,...

February Athlete of the Month – Wendy Ransom

Posted by on May 15, 2011 in Athlete of the Month | 0 comments

Wendy joined the CFPP family on day ONE and has been working hard ever since. The trainers have noticed a surge in her performance and abilities in teh past few months, most notably, her dogged determination to learn kipping pullups, which she has done. Wendy is like a juggernaut that moves through each workout with detemination, integrity and grit. She never skips a rep, she always burns out every last ounce of energy, and her trend on all of her movements from pullups to snatches has been on a constant upward path. We are very proud to name...

March Athlete of the Month – Bridget Rottinghaus

Posted by on May 15, 2011 in Athlete of the Month | 1 comment

Very few athletes have come as far as fast as Bridget Rottinghaus. Bridget first started coming to CrossFit in October of 2010. With no training or experience, she got off to a tentative start. At times she struggled to find her balance with the bar, and hesitated a bit on notching up the amount of weight she used. She was committed, but tentative. Fast forward 4 months. It became evident how far Bridget had come during a recent burpee/kettlebell workout, when she was throwing herself to the ground on the burpees and insisting on the...

Athlete of the Month – Anita Bell

Posted by on Apr 9, 2011 in Athlete of the Month | 10 comments

Anita Bell has transformed herself. Not just physically, but mentally. She’s gone from tentative crossfitter to badass-in-training. CrossFit can be intimidating when someone first begins, and initially, a lot of the movements and lifts gave Anita some pause at times. She would go into a workout questioning whether she would be able to use a certain weight, or complete a set of movements. But then something happened. It was during a recent “Filthy 50″ workout when suddenly, she was attacking the jumping pullups like they were...
