Nutrition is critical to your success as a CrossFit athlete, and in life!
You can’t out-train a bad diet. No matter how hard you train 5-6 days per week, you can undo that with one Skyline Chili meal followed up with a serving of UDF ice cream. Why do that to yourself? Eating right will make you the individual you have been striving to become. And this does NOT mean starving. This means making the food choices that will serve your health.
Paleo: The paleo diet is based on eating what our paleolithic ancestors ate. Meats, veggies, some fruit (notice the word “some”…reach for veggies before you reach for fruit.) Nuts and seeds, no starch, NO SUGAR.
You should absolutely avoid processed foods; for example, anything in the frozen food section, like TV dinners, pre-made waffles (really?), pancakes, etc. Stick with foods that are as close to the condition in which they were grown, walking, etc, and you will be fine. Steak is good. Steak-ums are not. Hot dogs are NOT meat!
Dairy is off limits on a strict paleo diet, although some forms of the “primal” diet allow for some dariy (See Alicia for more specific information about how you can get started on one of these programs).
There is much more information about the paleo diet on the Whole 9 website.
